Birkett Landing, Penn Yan NY
Iversen Construction Corporation served as the General Contractor for the historic renovation of the abandoned Birkett Mills warehouse properties.
Multiple stages of construction occurred during the renovation. Using hydraulic jacks and skilled man power, the existing floors of Bldg. #120 were shored and timber columns were raised to original elevation. Support structures were then reinforced, interior framing, P, HVAC & Electric installed, leading to drywall and interior finishes for the new high-end apartments.
Concurrently, a building within a building was being erected inside the oldest structure, Bldg. #130. Timber columns were left in place while three floor levels were removed; structural steel was integrated with the wood framing for two new interior floor levels. Wall framing, mechanicals and finishes follow.
A new membrane roof was installed; metal siding and windows were installed matching the historical materials of the building; and exterior site work completes the adaptation of the site to a new purpose.
Upon completion, the historical exterior appearance of the Birkett Mills warehouse is restored with unique timber frame elements adapted into new, high-end apartments and commercial space overlooking the Keuka Lake outlet, saving another Historical Building for a future generation.
